The Dean of Health Sciences is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and strategic direction of the Health Sciences Division, including programs in nursing, allied health, and other health-related disciplines. The Dean of Health Sciences ensures compliance for all healthcare programmatic accreditors.  This position ensures that the division’s academic programs meet the highest standards of excellence, preparing students for successful careers in healthcare.  The Dean of Health Sciences will oversee faculty and staff, program development, collaborate with external healthcare providers and agencies, and foster a positive learning environment that supports student success and community engagement. This position is also responsible collaborating with the other Deans and the Executive Vice President on curriculum in the management of all health sciences programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provides leadership and oversight for the budget, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health sciences programs, ensuring they meet industry standards and accreditation requirements.
  2. Provides assistance in the day-to-day supervision of health sciences program instructors, including recruitment and training of adjunct instructors, evaluation of instructors, development of class schedules, and assuring timely completion of instructional and student affairs reports.
  3. Maintains appropriate records and files related to all health sciences programs.
  4. Provides leadership with health sciences program curriculum as it relates to: competency-based instruction, graduate portfolios, student outcomes, dual enrollment, schedules, college catalog, development of new programs, program reviews, regional and programmatic accreditation, faculty/adjunct faculty orientation, and institutional effectiveness.
  5. Assists with preparing reports and policy statements required by the President, Executive Vice President, accrediting agencies, the Alabama Community College System, and other external organizations.
  6. Assists in the establishment and maintenance of community partnerships to include business and industry, K-12 systems, community and civic organizations, and other higher education institutions.
  7. Assists with instructional components in articulation agreements with local secondary school systems and higher education institutions.
  8. Cultivates partnerships and maintains strong working relationships with alumni, local healthcare providers, industry leaders, and government agencies to support educational opportunities, student placements, apprenticeships, preceptorships, employment, and program advisory committees.
  9. Ensure the division has appropriate facilities, equipment, and technological resources for training to meet current healthcare workforce development needs. 
  10. Serves as the curriculum specialist for all health sciences programs and collaborates with faculty and staff to develop and revise curricula, keeping up with emerging trends and best practices in healthcare education.
  11. Ensures that academic programs are aligned with the college's mission and goals and reflect the needs of the healthcare industry.
  12. Recommends for employment qualified instructional personnel and appropriate changes in assignments in healthcare programs ensuring high standards of teaching and professional development.
  13. Manages all off-campus health sciences programs course offerings. 
  14. Observes and evaluates all health sciences instructional programs.
  15. Maintains and complies with all of the ACCS Board of Trustees Policies and Procedures, Alabama Community College System, Alabama Commission on Higher Education, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, programmatic accrediting bodies, and the College.
  16. Ensures and facilitates the appropriate, orderly, and timely flow of information from the health sciences programs units of the College to the Executive Vice President, President, and other members of the administrative staff.
  17. Maintains, recommends, and evaluates equipment and technology needs for health sciences programs.
  18. Ensures faculty maintains professional credentials and affiliations with and participate in appropriate local, state, regional, and professional organizations.
  19. Strategizes with other administrators to develop and recommend curriculum additions to the Executive Vice President.
  20. Supervises and assists with the aspects of registration and pre-registration to include advising students and developing degree plans as needed.
  21. Assists faculty members in informing students of educational and occupational opportunities.
  22. Assures that faculty members provide a proper instructional environment and maintains good human relations in the classroom so that learning is more effective by fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and communication among faculty and staff.
  23. Ensures that students have access to necessary academic support services, including advising, tutoring, career counseling, and internships or clinical placements.
  24. Develops and implements strategies to improve student retention, graduation rates, and employment outcomes for graduates.
  25. Collaborates with student services to enhance the overall student experience within the Health Sciences division.
  26. Secures funding through grants and partnerships to support program development and student success.
  27. Represents the Health Sciences Division at institutional meetings, conferences, and with external stakeholders.
  28. Participates and ensures that each Health Sciences unit participates actively and creatively in the planning process of the College. 
  29. Retains and submits documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts.
  30. Assumes other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Vice President and/or the President.
  31. Serves on college committees as requested.
Qualifications:
  1. Master’s Degree in a health sciences-related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. At least three (3) years’ supervisory experience in education or healthcare field.
  3. At least five (5) years of teaching experience.
  4. At least three (3) years’ experience in developing new curriculum in health sciences and/or accreditation of health sciences-related programs. 
  5. Competency in the use of instructional technology. 
  6. Effective oral, auditory, and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to handle multiple tasks, planning, organizing and prioritizing with minimum supervision.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality of office information.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, other employees, industry craftspeople, human resource directors, plant and office supervisors, and public.
  10. Ability to prepare and implement a budget.
  11. Ability to project a professional and congenial demeanor.
