The Campus Police Officer implements the College’s security policies and procedures and maintains peace, order, safety, and security for students, faculty, staff, and the public. This position safeguards the College’s physical facilities, grounds, and property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal activities.   This position must be held by a current APOSTIC-certified police officer. 
 

Salary Schedule: E3 04

Salary Schedule- Work-week: Sunday through Sunday
Work shifts: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm -11:00 pm, and 11:00 pm -7:00 am
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provides campus security, law enforcement protection, and assists in civil defense preparedness. 
  2. Provides foot and vehicular patrol of campus. 
  3. Safeguards students, faculty, staff, authorized campus visitors, college property, buildings, and equipment
  4. Responds to and investigates all incidents on campus including but not limited to criminal, security and safety, and college violations.
  5. Keeps administration updated on situations and developments involving the safety and security of college locations.
  6. Locks and unlocks offices and buildings daily.
  7. Monitors authorized student activities and other events on campus to ensure security, safety, and adherence to college policies.
  8. Prepares accidents and incident/offense reports.
  9. Assists in coordinating drills and exercises, including evacuation and lockdown drills in every building during every twenty-four-month cycle.         
  10. Assists in coordinating training with emergency response partners to ensure proper unified response during critical events.
  11. Assists in providing training to faculty and staff concerning indicators of potentially problematic behaviors so that positive behavioral interventions can allow the at-risk individuals to thrive.
  12. Assists in coordinating training for college personnel on matters of safety and security.
  13. Assists in the development of plans and procedures for campus security, emergency response, and other related matters.
  14. Must be willing to work on all campus/Instructional sites and on all shifts based on the needs of college.
  15. Comply with the policies of the Alabama Community System and Trenholm State Community College.
  16. Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  1. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED Certificate is required.
  1. Minimum of three (3) years of employment experience as a police officer.
  1. APOST minimum Standards Certificate or ability to achieve a lateral transfer from APOST.
  2. Valid Alabama driver’s license.
  3. Must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  2. Employment experience as a police officer in a college setting is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  1. Thorough knowledge of law enforcement methods, security methods, and traffic control procedures.
  2. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  3. Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  4. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the general public
  5. Ability to effectively supervise personnel.
  6. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
  7. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  8. Prolonged sitting and standing at times.
  9. Some overnight travel may be required.
  10. Ability to travel independently.
  11. Ability to work with large groups.
  12. Ability to traverse both campuses. 
  13. Ability to work flexible hours.
  14. Ability to communicate by using PC, telephone, and written media.
